About
Us
The Houston Bicycle
Club
The Houston Bicycle Club is a
non-profit, volunteer run recreational cycling club for riders of all ages and
abilities. The Club was organized for
the promotion of bicycling among men and women as a healthful outdoor sport,
and to promote and encourage bicycle safety in Texas among adults as well as
young people. The Club was started in
1964.
Members
The HBC
has about 600 members with a wide variety of interests in cycling. Some of us are casual weekend riders, some
are bicycle commuters, some are competitive racers, and some just want to
express their support for bicycling as a fun, healthy, and environmentally
friendly activity. In short, we like to
ride!
Becoming
a member is easy and cheap ($20 per year).
You can sign up online using this website or by mail. You will start receiving our monthly club
newsletter, The Final Draft which lists the all important ride schedule.
The Rides
The HBC
has a variety of rides including in-town social rides, countryside rides,
training rides for hard riders, orientation rides for new members, as well as
"special" rides such as the Trash Ride and the New Years Pot Luck
Ride. Most of our countryside rides are
to the west and northwest of Houston.
See the Rides section of this website for more information.
Non
members are welcome on all rides. Choose
a ride that suits you. Come on out to
the ride start and have a good time!
Hopefully, you will become a member.
Club Meetings
The HBC
has a monthly meeting, usually on the second Tuesday of the month. This is a good occasion to socialize with
fellow members, sign up to be a ride starter, listen to an interesting program,
and grab some snacks!
Other Events
Thruout the year the HBC has special events such as bicycle
weekends, picnics, a century, social get-togethers for sporting events, comedy
clubs, musical events, and the like. In
past years we have organized super tours in the US as well as abroad. The
HBC is also one of the rotational sponsors of the Kerrville Easter Hill country
ride.
