3rd Annual David Eikenburg Memorial Bike Ride
|
Karen Hollen
|
"The ride (2nd annual) last Saturday was a gem. It was close and had all of the trimmings. We felt pampered the whole time. All rides are different and this one gave me a different experience because it was put on by the local church. The pastor there was killed two years ago on his bike and this was the second annual ride in his honor with the proceeds going towards their Missionary work in South America .
We joined about 50 other riders on the 70 mile route. All but one of the rest stops was at church. These were old established churches dating way back. It never rained, the roads were always dry and the weather was unusually cool and for some divine reason we always had a tail wind.
After the ride they fed us homemade hamburgers and we ate inside of the church. There were many pictures of the man and his activities in Nicaragua . We were lost indeed, lost for a little while in the world of the late Pastor David Eikenburg. Rest in peace brother." ~ A rider.

Texas Route: OCTOBER 17-19, 2008
Beginning in historic LaGrange and ending near Austin, the route will wind through a variety of landscapes including the Lost Pines, farm and ranchland, the Guadalupe River, and the Hill Country.
All routes can be completed by a beginning rider with sufficient training, and are challenging enough for a seasoned cyclist.
All riders and crew MUST attend event check-in on the Thursday afternoon prior to each Ride in which they are participaing. Each Ride begins on Friday morning and ends on a Sunday afternoon.
On each Ride, Riders will average 70 miles each day and will make two overnight camping stops. GYGIG’s Rides will kick off with an opening ceremony, and a closing ceremony welcomes and celebrates all those who met the challenge and pedaled for empowerment, awareness, and a cure for IBD.
Why A Three-Day Ride?
Conservative estimates are that more than 1.4 million Americans suffer from Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, yet awareness of these diseases is sorely lacking. A multiple-day ride raises both public awareness about IBD and vital funds to continue the battle against these diseases.
This Ride empowers individuals to personally fight IBD and rise to a physical challenge. Our riders, many of whom live with Crohn’s or colitis, achieve intense personal satisfaction by achieving an athletic goal some never thought they’d be able to reach. Every pedal stroke of this Ride can be an empowering experience as we ride for those who can’t. The Ride is an opportunity for those affected by the disease to come together for something positive.

Tour Du Rouge
|
Karen Hollen
|
Be among the first to join the inaugural ride of the Tour du Rouge from the Bayou City to the Crescent City. This six-day, push-your-limits ride along the Gulf Coast will be limited to 300 riders. But it won't all be hard work, each night you will enjoy good food and entertainment with your fellow riders.
The Cause
Your participation in the Tour du Rouge supports American Red Cross Chapters along the Gulf Coast from Houston to New Orleans.
The American Red Cross provides emergency assistance when people are forced from their homes by fires, floods or other disasters.
Military families stay connected through American Red Cross Emergency Communication.
American Red Cross CPR and First Aid courses teach people to save a life, while American Red Cross swim lessons help protect our children's lives.
The vast majority of these services are provided by our trained and dedicated volunteers, the heart of the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross is neighbors helping neighbors.
